Greetings Athletes!

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and in a few short days, you will be running the 4th Annual Nutmeg State Eco-Friendly Charity 1/2 Marathon, 10k or 5k Race. We are excited to welcome you all to beautiful Washington, CT. Our race site is family-friendly with playgrounds, safe open space, cafes and shops that are perfect for spectating your loved ones throughout the races!

Please read this entire email for all pertinent race information. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated - if you know of someone that may be interested, please have them email Mandy at EndureITMultiSports@gmail.com Community Service credits are available for students.

Online registration is open until the end of the week. Race-day registration will be available starting at 6:30 AM on SUNDAY APRIL 25. Packet pick-up will begin at 6:30 AM as well. DO NOT SHOW UP EARLY as we will not be ready for you. Settle people, I know you're tapered, but try and relax. We will have extra porta-potties to supplement the "real bathrooms" available and ample volunteers at reg to get you through registration fast! We will have designated lines for pre-registered 1/2 marathon, 10k and 5k athletes. Please collect your race goodies and shirts and then collect your timing chip (1/2 Marathon and 10k athletes only).

Bring a PHOTO ID with you to registration. Those registering on race-day, remember, we accept cash and checks only. EVERYONE MUST SIGN THE EVENT WAIVER. No exceptions. No signing the waiver, no racing. The 1/2 Marathon fee and 10k bump up to $55 and $35 respectively. These races are for charity purposes and are eco-friendly. Your race fee helps us to offset expenses and benefit worthy organizations. You will be so excited with all that we are doing - our fantastic sponsors have ponied up some great goodies for you all and amazing prizes!

Bruce Raynor of Athletes for a Fit Planet will be on hand to talk to you about eco-initiatives as well as to purchase (and hand out to those that pre-purchased) Carbon Offset tags. They are $3 and eliminate your carbon footprint associated with the travel to and from the race. Pretty cool!

Awards (awesome goodies worth over $5,000) will be given to the top 3 Overall male and female competitors in the 1/2 Marathon as well as to the top male and female competitors in the USATF 10-year age categories (i.e. 20-29, 30-39, etc). Top Male and Female Overall and age-group winners will be awarded to 10k Competitors and Top Male and Female will be awarded in the 5k competition. We will not be shipping awards, so either stick around or have someone pick up your award for you. Again, we are a charity organization and beyond wanting to give as much away as we can, we are also striving to be carbon-neutral, so we'd prefer to not send anything (besides emails!) or use gas.

Onto the race course: The 1/2 Marathon will go off at 7:50 AM (walkers may start earlier, simply alert Ken Platt, our race timer), the 5k at 8 AM and the 10k at 8:05 AM. All 1/2 marathon and 10k competitors MUST wear the ankle-strap with timing chip. No chip = no time. All athletes must pin race numbers so they are visible on the front of the body.

The courses are marked with HUGE 5 x 4 foot arrow signs. When the 10k enters the Depot they stay straight on Calhoun street, the 1/2 Marathon turns RIGHT at that intersection for their first out-and-back on Rte 47 and the 5k turns Left on River Rd. Fear not, volunteers and police will be at this intersection to direct you.

Tell your friends and Family about Marty's Cafe - Marty's will be open early on race morning for all your caffeine needs. They have comfy outdoor space (and a nice lawn) for all your spectating needs. It is a short less than 1/4 mile walk from the start area and there is additional parking there if you (or your family members) don't want to walk.

Dogs and baby carriages: Totally fine with me, but please line up in the back so as to not disrupt other runners.

Ipods and earbuds: Not allowed - sorry. USATF rules stipulate that for safety reasons we may not allow the usage of these devices. Enjoy the sounds of nature.

Parking: Available at the Washington Primary School (race site). Additional parking is available behind the Washington Town Hall, at the Pantry and other local businesses.

Please try not to use people's lawns as bathrooms. Public urination is a crime...not to mention we'd like to hold the race again, so please keep it in your pants - you too, ladies!

Aid stations - every mile to 1.5 miles along the 1/2 marathon race route. For the 10k runners, your first chance is at mile 2 of your course, as you near the top Calhoun Hill.

Aid stations will be fully stocked with, drumroll please: HEED sports drink, Crystal Rock Water, Ice, Vaseline, Hammer Gels(varied flavors), Cookies, Pretzels, Oranges, Coca-Cola. Please only drop items at aid stations...this does not mean 1/4 mile away from aid stations, it means AT aid stations. If you hold onto something for 1/2 a mile, just keep holding it until the next aid station. This race is part of a Global Alliance of Eco-Friendly Races, so please do your part.

You will have until 12 PM to complete the races. There is a sag vehicle out on course and if you need to leave the race for any reason, flag this person or another volunteer down and we'll get you help.

When you cross the finish line, please return your timing chip and strap, grab a bottled Crystal Rock water and HOLD ONTO IT. We ask that you re-fill this bottle when needed instead of using cups. We will have a Brunch Buffet of goodies for you all. Please note the Recycling, Garbage and Compost containers.

1/2 Marathon finishers will receive exclusive Recycled and Compostable EndureIT Bottles - they look great!

Please keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly. 2 years ago it was 50 and overcast, last year it was 80-something and HOT - remember to eat well the day before the race - drink enough fluids and add some extra salt to your food. On race day, remember it's about more than just water - get in sports drink and be smart. If you are not used to the heat, please pace yourself adequately. Your safety is more important than any finishing time.

Those of you using this event to qualify will find the course certification number on the website. Ken Platt, timer extraordinaire will have results up on race day at www.plattsys.com Remember to return your timing chip - lost or un-returned chips incur a $150 fee.
