Lake Waramaug Triathlon Pre-Race Update!

First off, while online registration is now closed, I've reserved about 100 spots for RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

Ok, now for a few notes about the event, race day and more!

First off, a huge thank you to all of our fantastic sponsors, volunteers and you athletes - we are looking forward to the 10th Anniversary edition of the Lake Waramaug Triathlon!  I took over this event 4 years ago and in that time, we have raised and donated tens of thousands of dollars to local charities, made the event (and all EndureIT events) Eco-Friendly, carbon neutral and sustainable.  I cannot wait to greet all of you across that finish line!

It is going to be HOT, so please, be sure to hydrate the days before the race.  Add some extra salt to your food and even sports drink.

RACE DAY:

Parking and Registration open at 4 PM on Friday.  Please do not arrive early as volunteers will not be ready for you.  Please also remember to be kind to volunteers...all of them.  They are my friends and family, they are your friends and family.

Have a Photo ID with you as well as your USA Triathlon Card.  If you are not a USAT member, you will need to purchase a 1-day license for $10.  Keep the receipt.  Should you decide you would like to become a member ($39 annual fee), you can deduct day fees from that!

If you registered online and you do not have a USAT license, fear not, most of you payed the $10 fee during online registration, but we still need you to fill out the form to send in.  Bummer USA Triathlon hasn't gotten rid of the paper yet!

You will receive a bike frame number, a helmet number and a run number.  Please apply these in appropriate areas.

Bodymarkers will be on hand to number you before race start.

Ken Platt is our official timer, you will need to collect your timing chip and strap on race day.  Please be sure to return this as lost/stolen/un-returned chips incurr a $50 fee.  Should you decide to abandon the race, please return your chip and strap to a volunteer.

SWIM:

5:55 PM Women and Relays

6 PM Men

The swim will be wetsuit legal as the temps are in the mid 70's.  Wetsuits are allowed, but you may swim without them safely.

Lifeguards will be on land and in kayaks.  If you are in danger, take off your swim cap and wave it in the air.

The swim course is rectangular and is .5 miles in length.  You will swim counter-clockwise around bright red buoys.

Swim cutoff is 6:35 PM as per police orders.

BIKE:

Be sure your chin strap is buckled before leaving transition.  The first 1-2 miles of the course are flat and downhill.  There is construction going on and we are sweeping the roads ourselves to keep you safe, but please, right carefully.  The race is not won in the first mile of the bike.  Ok?  You then ride clockwise along the flat lake road for 8 miles.  Then you climb a bit, then it's flat into the camp.  You may unbuckle your chinstrap ONLY when in transition and bike is racked.

Be sure to stay to the right hand side of the road, DO NOT CROSS THE YELLOW LINE, the roads are open to *local traffic - just the neighbors.  Remember to stay right, pass on the left with other athletes.  Drafting is not allowed, so please just don't do it.  Triathlon is an individual sport.  Ok, no more rules, I promise!

RUN:

Exit transition and the first mile is cross-country style along the mowed lawn of the camp.  The last 2 miles are on Mt Lake Rd (a paved road).  There is 1 aid station on the run course that will have water and bathrooms.

FINISH:

SMILE!  Brightroom Photography will taking your photos before, during and after the event!

Return your timing chip, then grab some food and drink and hang out!  If possible, please re-fill your water bottles rather than taking a new one.  Because our events are eco-friendly and for charity purposes, we do not mail awards.  Please stick around or have a friend grab your schwag for you.

AWARDS: will be presented at about 8:30 PM once most finishers are in.  Awards are presented to:

Top 3 Male and Female Overall

Top Athena and Clydesdale

Top Relay

Most Loyal Athletes (10 for 10)

Top 3 in USAT Age Groups (19 and under, 20-24, 25-29 and so on)

We also have a fantastic charity raffle with wetsuit giveaways, dinner certificates to such notable restaurants as the Boulders Inn, The Mayflower Inn and Spa and more!

VOLUNTEERS: If you would like to volunteer or know of someone who would like to help, we can always use extra hands!  Volunteers are entitled to a free race entry, food, shirts and other goodies.  Plus, doesn't it just feel good?  Yes!

Best of luck to all and again, I look forward to welcoming each and every one of you across the finish line, whether this is your 10th year with us or your first triathlon ever!

Your Faithful Race Director,

Mandy

p.s. emails and phone calls will not be returned until Monday June 21st.  Thank you for your understanding!
